Wallan’s remarkable finals run has continued with the side through to the Riddell District Football League grand final.
The Magpies have been the underdogs in all three finals so far, but it’s amazing what can happen with some belief.
On Saturday, the Magpies knocked off a more experienced Diggers Rest sides in the preliminary final.
Scores were level at quarter time, before the Magpies opened up a small gap in the second quarter.
They were able to extend that in the third quarter and led by 17 points at the last break.
While the experienced Burras, who were looking for back-to-back premierships, had been in this position before, the young Magpies were able to hold their nerve.
They kicked two goals to one in the last quarter, to seal the 11.11 (77)-7.8 (5) win.
Matt Perri and Corey Grindlay kicked three goals each for the Magpies, while Chris Barton and Michael Mannix named their best.
The win capped off a good day for the Magpies, with their reserves winning through to the grand final earlier in the day.
Like the seniors, Wallan defeated Diggers Rest, winning 7.3 (45)-3.4 (22).
Brok Wightman was named the Magpies best.
The last time their seniors won a premiership was in 1992, with their last reserves premiership in 1995.
The reserves will be looking to make it third time lucky, having lost the grand final the last two years.
The Magpies will face Rupertswood in both the seniors and reserves grand finals on Sunday at Clarke Oval.
