Macedon coach Ben Tankard has been appointed the Riddell District Football League’s interleague coach for this year.

Tankard, who led the Cats to a preliminary final last year, was last week announced as the league’s coach for its WorkSafe AFL Victoria Community Championship clash against the Southern Football Netball League in May.

Tankard said he was excited to coach the best players in the league.

“I am very passionate about showcasing the Riddell District Football Netball League and trying to climb the rankings again this season,” he said.

“There are some really good footballers running around in this league and hopefully we can get a lot of those players on the park and show everyone how strong the league is.”

League football operations manager Jordan Doyle was elated to have Tankard on board.

“The RDFNL are very excited to have Ben as the senior interleague coach for 2019,” Doyle said.

“He brings a wealth of experience to the role from his playing days and as a coach, and we are confident that he will do a great job.

“We face a big challenge against the SFNL who are a strong and proud league with a rich history, and we hope that Ben’s appointment will encourage the best players across the RDFNL competition to be involved in the 2019 senior interleague campaign.”

Tankard replaces Arron Bray as the league’s interleague coach. Bray coached the side to two wins in as many years.

The RDFL will host the interleague clash, with the location still to be decided.

Both teams are coming off wins, with the RDFL beating the Central Highlands Football League and the Southern FNL defeating the North Central FNL.
