The Sunbury Kangaroos have moved back into the top three in the Essendon District Football League Women’s premier competition.
Facing cross-town rivals Sunbury Lions on Friday night, the Kangaroos proved too strong in the 19.14 (92)-0.0 (0) win.
The Kangaroos did most of the damage in the first half, when they led by 66 points at the main break.
The Lions tightened up in the second half, making it harder for the Kangaroos.
Alex Quigley continued her good form kicking five goals, to take her season’s tally to 36 to lead the competition’s goal kicking.
Kangaroos skipper Tylah Bell was named best on ground for her work in the midfield. Harmoni Chivell, Karla Dalisay and Kelsie Gill were also named among the best.
The win and Burnside Heights’ loss to Aberfeldie, sees the two teams switch ladder positions, with the Kangaroos now third.
It also all but seals the Kangaroos’ finals position with two rounds remaining, with the top five teams to play finals.
The Lions sit seventh with three wins.
Both Sunbury sides have a bye this week, with a split round. After the bye, the Kangaroos face Craigieburn, while the Lions play Keilor.
In men’s division 2, the undefeated Kangaroos defeated Hadfield, 14.13 (97)-7.7 (49), while East Sunbury kept its finals hopes alive with a 32.24 (216)-6.3 (39) win against Keilor Park.
