North Western Titans are expecting to build throughout the Baseball Victoria Summer League division 3 season.

With a new-look side, the Titans know it will take some time to get things going.

Despite not having a win on the board, new coach Stuart Tierney has been happy with how things have gone so far.

“We’re still trying to get a few new players,” he said.

“It’s a whole new squad with a few players from last year.

“We only went down to the premiers from last year by six runs … we could have beaten them, we made more hits but made a few errors in the field.”

Tierney said the change of playing group was due to a number of reasons.

He said there was some who were having a season off, while they were hopeful some would come back later in the season.

Just three players from last season’s team played in the opening couple of rounds.

They have gone out and added a few players too.

Three former Werribee players have joined the club, with possibly a fourth to come across too.

Those three missed the first game, while waiting for their clearances to come through.

“I played at Werribee a few years back with them,” Tierney said.

“They played in Werribee’s firsts and seconds.

“They wanted a bit of change. One had moved to Melton and then brought his mates.

“We’ve got a good squad and hopefully we’ll push for finals.”

Tierney said that they were still after more players across the board if anyone was interested.

Tierney, who joined the Titans last season, has taken on the coaching role.

Having long been involved in baseball and coaching, he wanted to get more involved at his new club.

“I wanted to give a little bit back,” he said.

“I started coaching when I was 15-16, coaching juniors. I have had a few years off.

“They needed some extra help this year and I already knew everyone.”

On Sunday, the Titans suffered their third loss in a row, this time losing to Chelsea.

Missing a few players, the Titans lost 15-8.

The North Western Titans conceded the lead early and were never able to recover, despite having more hits.

Cameron Wilson managed five hits from his five attempts.

Tierney said they were hoping to get on the board in the next couple of weeks.

“We are playing a couple of the easier sides, hopefully we’ll get a few wins.

“We think finals are a good chance after what we saw against the top side.

“Hopefully we’ll get a couple more players back.” Tierney said overall the club was in a good position. He said they were still looking for players for their other sides as well.
