Melton has one win in the opening week of the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association JC Craig under-15  Shield.

The Lions started the week off well in the west group with a win against Altona.

The Lions made 87. Josh Oldfield top-scored with 22, while Alex Kerr chipped in with 20.

With a small total to defend, the Lions bowlers kept it tight and bowled Altona out for 64. Joshua Francis took three.

The Lions’ second match went down to the wire. They again batted first, this time making 8-102. Kerr (40) and Oldfield (24) were again standouts with the bat.

Yarraville finished 4-110 to win.

It was a tough day with the bat for the Lions against Williamstown in round three. The Lions could only manage 7-82 with extras (25) the highest on the scorecard.

Ryan Cran was the best of the batsmen, making 17 not out.

The Seagulls hit the winning runs nine wickets down and finished 9-83.

Cran, Francis and Oscar Hodgetts took two wickets each for the Lions.

The Lions again struggled with the bat on Sunday against Werribee and were bowled out for 68. Conrad Farrugia top-scored with 27 and just two batsmen reached double figures.

Werribee easily chased the runs and went on to make 4-153.

The Lions play two more matches this week.
