Caroline Springs ended Manor Lakes’ winning run in the Western Region Football League Women’s competition.

The Storm were undefeated since the introduction of the competition last year, but that mattered for little on Sunday.

The Lakers, who also entered the match undefeated this season, came away with the points in a thriller.

It’s the first time the teams have played each other since last year’s grand final.

The Lakers kicked the only goal of the final quarter, to win 2.6 (18)-2.5 (17).

Anthea Stathakis, in her second game for the season, kicked both the Lakers’ goals.

Jasmine Raffaele and Krystyn Raymundo were the Lakers’ best in the win.

The win leaves the Lakers sitting atop the ladder with a 9-0 record. Spotswood and Manor Lakes aren’t far behind, with both sides having one loss each.

The Lakers this week face bottom side Wyndhamvale on Sunday. The Falcons will be hoping for their first win of the season.

It was a tougher weekend for the Lakers men’s side in division 1.

Playing reigning premiers Deer Park in wet conditions, the Lakers lost 6.17 (53)-1.8 (14). Stephen Brewer was best for the Lakers.

This week they face Point Cook away.
