Altona Yacht Club is hosting a Discover Sailing Day for people to go out on the water with an experienced sailor for free.
More than 65 sailing clubs statewide are taking part in the Australian Sailing initiative.
Altona’s vice-commodore Gail Lines said the club prided itself on an inclusive and diverse membership and welcomed all people to come for a short sail, look around the facilities and find out about the programs and courses.
“There is something for the whole family and even kids as young as five years old can sail under guidance,” Lines said.
“People of all abilities are most welcomed.
“The club also offer accessible facilities for people with a disability.”
Australian Sailing regional manager Gavin Wall said last year’s Discover Sailing Day had more than 4000 participants statewide.
“The family atmosphere and opportunity to sail with experienced sailors, combined with the beautiful locations, really showcases club life,” he said.
Altona’s Yacht Club at 10 Beach Street, Seaholme, will host Discover Sailing Day on Sunday, November 11 between 10am and 2pm, and people wanting to sail should allow at least one to two hours.
All boats and safety equipment are provided. Participants should wear clothes and shoes they don’t mind getting wet, a hat and sunscreen.
