Three men have been charged after shots were fired at a police car in Sunbury yesterday morning.

 Police were patrolling the area of Horne Street when shots were fired at their vehicle about 3.15am.

The uniformed officers drove their car to a nearby McDonald’s restaurant and sought cover inside. The patrol car was shot at again and a silver sedan rammed the vechicle before speeding off.

A number of police, including the air wing, were called in to search for the vehicle. The dog squad, specialist response units and police helicopters were sent as back up

Last night a 26-year-old man was charged with discharging a firearm at a vehicle, reckless conduct endangering serious injury and prohibited possession of a firearm.

An 18-year-old man was charged with discharging a firearm at a vehicle, reckless conduct endangering serious injury and prohibited possession of a firearm and armed robbery and a  33-year-old man was charged with discharging a firearm at a vehicle and reckless conduct endangering serious injury.

All three have been remanded in custody to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court today.
