Sunshine Football Club supporters will be encouraged to shop local as part of a new partnership between the club and local businesses.

The Golden Kangaroo Partnership program aims to promote businesses from Sunshine, North Sunshine, Braybrook, Albion and Maidstone to the football club’s supporters.

Sunshine Football Club president Xavier Hayes said the program was designed to encourage the club’s members to support, back and build local businesses.

“Sunshine Football Club’s reach is significant and extends beyond its players, coaches, administrators and volunteers,” he said.

“The Sunshine local business community is scattered with many small and medium businesses such as take-away stores, family grocers, hairdressers … who rarely get the opportunity to have access to such a large buying group without forking out considerable amounts of money on sponsorship.”

Businesses can join the program for 12 months for a small fee each week and will be given a golden kangaroo sticker to display. After the initial 12 months, businesses will have the option of rejoining the program.

Program partners will be promoted on the club’s Facebook page and website and will feature in its monthly newsletter and on the electronic scoreboard.

“The program is offering a unique opportunity for the local business and club members to build a long-standing relationship that will be mutually beneficial to both organisations,” Mr Hayes said.
