Police have swiftly arrested six teenage boys following an armed robbery at a bottle shop on Sunday night.

Police allege a group of males entered the shop on Durham Street at about 10.30pm and attempted to purchase alcohol, but were asked to leave due to their age.

It’s alleged one of the teenagers took a slab of beer and walked out of the store without paying while some of the group remained in the store.

One of the teenagers jumped onto the counter and allegedly produced a machete while the others stole more alcohol before leaving the store.

A male staff member was allegedly assaulted from behind, causing him to fall to the ground, but he did not require medical treatment.

The group ran from the scene, but specialist police units attended and arrested six males nearby.
