Kirsty Ciantar is showing off her new look.

The Sunbury resident cut off her hair last month and donated it to children’s charity Variety.

Ms Ciantar, 25, said her five-year-old daughter Izzy was one of her inspirations, along with her grandmother Rose Ciantar, to embrace shorter hair.

“Izzy’s got a cancer condition where she’ll get cancer multiple times,” she said.

“It’s a genetic disorder called bloom syndrome, so her genes are really fragile … they can mutate at anytime and turn into cancer.

“I just want to teach her it’s just hair and it’s not a big deal.

“But then nana went through cancer first and she’s just as important to me. Nana’s the heart of the family so without nana we don’t know what we’d do.”

Rose said her granddaughter’s gesture was a beautiful touch.

“Even just talking about it makes me cry,” she said.

“I’m so proud of her – she’s done a great job.”

Ms Ciantar wanted to go further and raise money for the same charity.

“I wasn’t planning on raising money, but I thought I may as well – I’m donating my hair, if people want to donate to the cause, there’s no harm in it,” she said.
