Wyndham council has officially opened the $1.95 million Galvin Park Tennis Pavilion in Werribee.

The council held a ceremony to showcase the state-of-the-art pavilion and nearby carpark last month.

Wyndham sports development portfolio holder Peter Maynard said the pavilion would support the growth of sports opportunities in the community.

“The pavilion has all of the most modern features and design including an accessible pavilion with multiple changerooms, 100 square metres of community space and plenty of parking,” he said. “This new pavilion will provide greater space for community activities and opportunities for a greater diversity of sports in Wyndham.”

Cr Maynard said Werribee Centrals Tennis Club would use the pavilion for club functions, competitions and training.

In its 2018-20 budget, which was released last month, the council allocated $1.74 million for the replacement and upgrade of the tennis courts, oval and pavilions at Galvin Park.

“It is vital that we continue to provide opportunities to promote engagement in sport and encourage our residents to live healthy and active lives, while increasing their connectedness to our community,” Cr Maynard said.
