The largest heavy horse event in the nation will be held at the National Equestrian Centre in Werribee Park on the weekend.
The Commonwealth Clydesdale Horse Society Australia (CCHS) will host the annual National Clydesdale & Heavy Horse Festival on Saturday and Sunday, between 8.30am to 4.30pm each day.
This year will mark the 13th year that the festival is held at Werribee Park. Wyndham council is a major sponsor of the event.
CCHS president Robert Ronzio said that the festival would feature horse breeds such as Clydesdales, Shire Horses, Pecherons, Gypsy Cobs, Fjords and Highland Ponies.
He said on Saturday morning, the horses would feature in led classes, where they would be appraised by two judges from Scotland.
Mr Ronzio said the festival would also feature also ridden and harness sections.
“For the first time, this year we will also hold a Concours D’elegance, where the riders get dressed up in a big floating dress,” he said.
Mr Ronzio said the CCHS would donate $1000 to efforts to help out with bushfire and drought relief. Tickets for the National Clydesdale & Heavy Horse Festival can be purchased at the gate. Cost: $10 per person, children under 16 free.
