Footpath trip hazard levels have been lowered as part of the Brimbank council’s new road management plan.
Under the plan, which was formally adopted by the council last month, footpath trip hazards have been lowered from 50mm to 25mm, meaning anything over 25mm will need to be removed.
Mayor Lucinda Congreve said the council will also take responsibility for repairs to footpath section of driveways under the plan.
“A review of the existing Road Management Plan had identified a number of opportunities to improve service standards relating to how council performed its road management duties,” she said.
“Under the new road management plan … council will now take responsibility for the footpath section of driveways, which was previously the responsibility of the property owner.
“The good news for residents is that council will fund these footpath repairs across driveways.”
During the 2018-19 financial year, more than 900 kilometres of council-owned roads were inspected and assessed to help plan road maintenance and improvements.
In addition, just over 1600 kilometres of footpath was also inspected and maintained.
The new plan sets out the council’s inspection intervals and response times.
Cr Congreve said it will ensure all council footpaths and roads are kept in good condition.
“We’re committed to keeping the city’s roads and footpaths in good condition,” she said.
“We have a duty of care to road users.”
