A program that repairs old bicycles for families in need will be expanded at Point Cook College this year.
The school’s year 9 students last year were taught how to repair and refurbish the donated bicycles as part of the Full Cycle program.
The bicycles were then passed on to the Point Cook Lions Club to give to families doing it tough.
Teacher Dominik Zylka said students fixed up 15 donated bikes in 2018.
Year 5, 6, 7 and 8 students will join the porgram in the coming year.
“It’s been a real hit,” Mr Zylka said. “It’s a feeder into senior trades.
“We’re building employability skills that can transfer into a part-time gig or getting into trades into senior years.”
