More than 23 years ago, Jim Morgan applied his engineering background to transform premises he and wife Barbara had purchased into a self-storage facility. With the help of their son Ivor, they created a new business from the ground up: Jim’s Self Storage.

Today, Jim’s Self Storage sets the benchmark in the self storage industry. With a state-of-the art facility and more than 900 storage units, Jim’s continues to provide the community with a vast array of different storage options.

Jim’s also has a fully stocked box shop with everything to make packing easier.

General Manager Ivor Morgan says with the recent large expansions, Jim’s Self Storage now offer unit sizes not previously available, which gives customers even more options.

“We have a unit for every type of storage need – from storing a couple of boxes to the contents of a mansion,” Ivor says. “The facility has keypad entry with personalised access codes and individually alarmed units, as well as computerised back-to-base security monitoring.

“The entire site has automatic lighting, there’s 24/7 video camera surveillance and the manager resides on site. Jim’s takes security very seriously.”

The business is also a one-stop destination for all things packing and moving. Open seven days a week, the Box Shop stocks everything from boxes, packing tape, bubble wrap and butchers’ paper to port-a-robes, picture boxes and lounge and mattress covers.

The team at Jim’s has a wealth of knowledge relating to choosing the right box and packing materials. They can offer expert tips on ways to pack, such as using anti-static bubble wrap for your television and electronics to avoid damage caused by electrostatic discharge. These tips all help to save you time, space and money.

Ivor is the Chairman of the Board for the Self Storage Association of Australasia and is in a good place to see the industry flourish and to help it move forward. He ensures his staff receive ongoing training to enable the team to give the best possible advice and service.

Jim’s offers courtesy trailers for its customers, but if the job is big or you want a hand, the staff have contacts for local businesses to assist with a move of any size. They even have contacts for interstate moves and everyone they recommend has been tried and tested by the team.

Ivor says the staff are dedicated, friendly and helpful and get fantastic feedback from customers. This includes great reviews, emails and cards of appreciation, homemade treats, chocolates and flowers – which is a testament to their level of commitment to excellence and professionalism.

Jim’s is a long-standing supporter of local sporting and community groups and events, including Williamstown Life Saving Club, Williamstown Football Club, local primary schools, the Lions Club and many more.

Until the end of November, Jim’s is offering a ‘Spring Special’, which includes a free second month of storage, five free book and wine boxes and a free padlock. Just ask for the Spring special when you book your storage unit.
