Work has begun already on the $2m second stage of Werribee Technical School following acceptance of tenders on June 1. Successful tenderer was E.A. Watts Pty. Ltd, who moved equipment on to the site last week. This stage is that which was postponed through a reorganisation of Education Department administration, but has come to the fore in recent weeks.

Werribee Lions Club’s annual country music festival has been barred from Werribee Park – because of snobbery. Werribee council was told on Monday night the Board of Works [and the] advisory committee for Werribee Park and Pt Cook had decided the mansion’s front lawn was not suitable for a music festival.

Fears that Wyndham council could have to find more than $1 million because of a Federal Government decision to abolish sales tax exemptions for local and state governments were averted last week. Council expected to cut services and capital works programs or increase rates to cope with the added costs of buying cars and other goods.

The closure of a Werribee gym has left irate members and staff out of pocket and seeking restitution of membership fees and pay. Bella Donna – which took over the Synnot Street gymnasium after Fernwood Women’s Health Club revoked its franchise – closed late last month without informing all its members, some of whom had recently paid $730 for a 12-month membership.
