40 years ago

November 12, 1975

A petite, blonde detective has been appointed to Sunshine CIB. The detective is 26-year-old Bernice Masterson. Not only is Miss Masterson the first female CIB detective to be appointed to Sunshine, but she is the only female CIB detective in the western suburbs.


30 years ago

November 13, 1985

Sunshine ratepayers are in for a 8.8 per cent rate hike. The former mayor Ian Mill said this week the increase was “modest” compared with the 15 per cent increase in Williamstown. He said that there had been no increase in Sunshine rates for two years.

Just three months after opening its $50 million northern extension, Highpoint Shopping Centre is set to grow again. The retail giant is planning a $100 million and 1300 jobs expansion, which will include a multi-level David Jones department store.

Violence at ALP internal elections in Kings Park and St Albans stemmed from tensions generated by branch stacking, Maribyrnong federal Labor MP Bob Sercombe said. “For a long time now, many members have been deeply worried about the cancer of branch stacking and the thuggery that often goes with it,” he said.
