Women living in the west are being called on to send a fond farewell to a Footscray icon.
Women of the West is a group that creates events for women to have fun while giving back to the community, and it is planning a last hurrah for 501 Receptions next month, after which the centre will be redeveloped into apartments.
Co-organiser Michelle Masterson said the group has been organising events since 2012, raising money for Women’s Health West and other local charities.
“Sarah Strybosch and I started the group when we had our second babies,” she said.
“The idea was to give women a chance for having a night out and connecting with other women in the area.
“We have a really great community of women and everyone had such a great time we knew there was a desire for something like this.”
Ms Masterson said it will be third and probably final event at 501 Receptions.
The theme will be “a touch of class”, the reception centre’s motto.
“It’s a bit of an icon around here, we feel a bit lucky to have the event here this year as we thought the last one was going to be our last chance.”
The July 23 event will have all the bells and whistles, including a three-course meal, drinks and a DJ spinning songs for the women-only dance floor.
Tickets are $80, with all cash raised to go to Women’s Health West.
