Three days, three events and three locations – the Weerama festival is back.
Weerama will return to Wyndham next month with a three-day extravaganza held consecutively in Truganina, Wyndham Vale and Werribee.
The line-up will include:
- An outdoor cinema, food trucks and live bands at Arndell Park Community Centre in Truganina from 5-9.30pm on March 18.
- Carnival and fireworks at Presidents Park in Wyndham Vale from 12-9.30pm on March 19. Includes live entertainment, rides and stalls, a skater competition, BMX demonstration and the W Factor Talent finals.
- The iconic Weerama parade and pop-up park, with market stalls, along Watton Street and Station Place, Werribee, from 10am-3pm on March 20.
Festival president Marcel Mahfoud said the festival would be bigger and better than ever.
“There’s been a huge flurry of activity in the lead-up and there’s a lot happening,” he said. “It’s all coming together.”
Mr Mahfoud said the festival committee was keen to host events across Wyndham to get the whole community involved.
He said ‘satellite’ events were also planned for Soho Village in Point Cook and The Grange in Hoppers Crossing as part of festivities.
The Weerama festival was last held in 2014 but was abandoned last year when the council refused money to fix governance issues, including administration and bookkeeping.
This year, the council committed $30,000 and in-kind support.
