Wyndham police have encouraged community members to get techy-savvy and follow them on social media.

This month, the Wyndham Eyewatch Facebook page, run by local police, will celebrate its fifth anniversary.

The Eyewatch page is regularly updated with posts on topics as diverse as wanted persons, recent offences, security tips and when police will be out and about in Wyndham.

The page has more than 21,500 followers and more than 21,100 ‘likes’.

Acting Senior Sergeant Jason Forster from the Werribee Police Station, said police started the page with the hope of attracting a “large community following”.

“We are still hoping to increase the amount of people that follow and engage with Wyndham Eyewatch as our Wyndham community numbers are continually growing,” Acting Senior Sergeant Forster said.

He said police encouraged residents to be active on the page.

“However, Eyewatch is not a forum for racist and inappropriate commentary – our moderators will remove any inappropriate and derogatory comments and we may also ban them from our page,” he said.

“If you need to report a crime or report anything to the police then I encourage you to call triple-0 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” he said.
