A few months ago, Lorin Maslen opened the doors to Rue D’ Fleur, introducing the beauty and colours of stunning flowers and foliage to Main Street, Romsey.

For now, Lorin is focusing on the fresh, arranged-to-order flowers arm of her new venture. She’s also filled her store with homewares and giftware, carefully chosen to enhance all kinds of home decor and tastes – something at which Lorin, a qualified interior designer, excels.

“I’ve always loved flowers and creating special ways to use them,” Lorin says. “Working with bridal parties is a strong focus of Rue D’ Fleur … I feel my knowledge of trends and an ability to create something distinctive is a win-win.

“I have a room set aside for brides to come in and have a chat about their flower requirements in a relaxed setting. Together we can come up with some fabulous designs – but I’m always led by the bride’s own vision.”

Lorin has some plans in the pipeline for her lovely store.

“I’ll be introducing floristry classes to help people in my wonderful community get to grips with the intricacies of flower arranging,” she says. “I hope these classes provide a place for like-minded people to meet over a new hobby or to brush up on existing skills.

“My main focus right now is working closely within my own community. However, I plan to introduce deliveries in future to the entire Macedon Ranges region.”

Lorin is loving meeting the new customers who are rapidly discovering the goodies to be had at Rue D’ Fleur.

“I get to forge new bonds and share lots of laughter – and sometimes even tears,” she says. “I love having a chat and getting to know people and aim to offer a really personalised service.”

Lorin, with a trade certificate in floristry and teaching/interior decoration, previously owned a corporate business in the CBD for about eight years. She’s looking forward to putting ever-deeper roots down into her rural community and bringing a first-class floristry service to town. From now until the end of November, every purchase of more than $100 receives a free gift.
