The Footscray Trugo Club is back.

Almost a decade after being forced to shut up shop due to dwindling membership, the revitalised club will hold a social game day at its newly-renovated home on Buckley Street.

The January 28 event will be the first social game day at the historic club site, following occasional events in 2017 at the Footscray Bowling Club.

The site originally operated from 1937 to 2009.

Maribyrnong council recently completed the first stage of its renovation, upgrading the lawn, seating, shelters and fencing. Fully refurbishing the dilapidated pavilion has been estimated to cost $370,000.

Footscray Trugo Club co-president Justin Mansfield said the club was a strong part of the area’s sports and social fabric and was enjoying a groundswell of local support.

A barbecue will be available from 1pm and trugo will be played from 2pm, with a kids game set up as well.
