Melton’s party on the water is making waves again.
Teams and spectators are already pumped and primed for Melbourne Runabout and Speedboat Club’s annual Melton Gold Cup event at Exford Weir this weekend.
Entries are still open for the three-day, high-octane national speedboat event, which starts this Friday. Races in various categories will culminate in the Melton Gold Cup.
Entertainment by Bone Sharkerz and a car show with up to 100 vehicles ranging from hot-rods and street machines to classics will be among the highlights.
Melbourne Runabout and Speedboat Club partners with Beyondblue for the event, raising more than $24,000 for the charity last year.
Club commodore Robert Psaila said the best of speedboat action would be on display.
“It truly must be witnessed to appreciate the skill and horsepower the drivers and boats possess – the Unlimited Outboards with cornering capabilities pulling up to 6Gs,” he said.
He said there were also plenty of junior races.
“We love that the future of the sport is so strong,” Mr Psaila said. “The junior drivers have boats with limited horsepower and they are all similar ages … otherwise the junior drivers are just as passionate about their racing as the adults.”
