It’s not just her outstanding skills that have put the founder of Lotus Smiles Dental on the map. Dr Thi Nguyen, who celebrates the first birthday of her Sunbury clinic last month, is equally well known for her infectious smiles, her gentle approach and her voluntary work in the community.

Thi has had a busy year, including reaching out to her community by running activities at the local library to raise oral health awareness among young children.

She and her growing team also raised funds at Sunbury’s StreetLife festival for the Royal Children’s Hospital.

From the beginning, Thi has had
Dr Sharon Chui on board, while she will welcome a new dentist to the practice this month.

“Dr Chui, who has worked in Collins Street and Bendigo, brings her cosmetic dentistry skills to our team,” Thi says.

“She speaks fluent Mandarin and Cantonese and has a warm and fun-loving personality.

“Dr Melanie Leung, who starts with us this month, is experienced in cosmetic and general surgery and is known for her gentle approach – a trait we consider essential at Lotus Smiles.”

Thi is also keen to hire locals, recently bringing new trainee nurse and Sunbury resident Vanessa Heimann into the fold.

Two other locals can be found caring for patients and greeting visitors with that Lotus smile – people person Anne Dale, who’s called Sunbury home for the past 35 years, and Jade Gatt, who’s known for her bubbly personality and love of a chat.

Another member of this happy crew is Anne Ho, an oral health therapy student who has a special gift with children.

“We all take a real interest in children – and adults for that matter – to ease any fears they may have and to ensure their experience with us is a good one,” Thi says.

“We meet lots of children when we visit childcare centres to promote oral health, seeing this as a vital step in education and putting a friendly face to dentistry.”

Along with general and children’s dentistry, Lotus Smiles provides cosmetic dentistry – crowns, bridges, implants and Invisalign.

Plenty of time is taken to explain different treatment options to allow patients to make the right choices for their needs.

The practice treats DVA patients, offers a 10 per cent discount for seniors and a NO GAP check up and clean for new patients.
