Audiences are in for a touch of old school glitz and glamour, along with guns and gangsters, in the Kyneton Theatre Company’s latest show.
The company has revived the musical comedy Bugsy Malone – the story of a one-time boxer who is thrust into the gangster life when he unwillingly becomes the saviour of a speakeasy boss called Fat Sam.
The show is the third the company has performed in the newly refurbished Bluestone Theatre and is being directed by Lyndsay Kirkham and musical director Rauri Barker.
Ms Barker said the script sticks to the classic tale and is performed by a cast of talented local actors.
“Every time a company puts on a show they put their own twist to it,” she says.
“The show is very comedic and it’s got some old-fashioned humour in there. There are some well-known songs that you wouldn’t expect … it’s an all round good night for all ages.”
Bugsy Malone is showing at the Bluestone Theatre in Kyneton from May 26 to June 3.
