The west’s grandest short film festival will continue next year.
Wonders of the West, as the third Setting Sun Short Film Festival will be called, will light up the screens at the Sun Theatre in Yarraville from April 14 to 17.
Festival director Anna Bourozikas said entries were now being accepted for the festival, which this year screened 52 films across four days.
“The festival is going from strength to strength,” she said.
For the first time, the ever-expanding festival will include a free, all-day kid’s film festival at Footscray Town Hall.
The April 15 kid’s festival is open to all high school students from schools around Australia. Primary schools are also welcome to inquire about entering films.
The festival will be launched with the traditional opening night party on April 14 and will end with The Sunnies award night on April 17.
Ms Bourozikas said the face of this year’s festival is Amelia Lekatsas, aged nine-and-a-half.
“Amelia regularly uses her iPad to make short films,” she said. “She represents the infinite imagination and enchanted storytelling capabilities of children.”
