West Footscray Festival of Food, Dance and Colours

Where: Cnr Barkly and Clarke streets, West Footscray

When: 10am to 2pm, Saturday, March 19

West Footscray will be ablaze with colour this Saturday as residents and visitors celebrate the food, dance and colours of the community. They’ll be invited to join in the traditional “throwing of the colours” in a celebration of Holi, the Hindu festival of colours.

Where: Werribee Racecourse

When: 11am-9pm, Saturday, March 19

The Festival of Colours, a traditional Indian harvest celebration, returns to Wyndham this weekend with bright colours produced from corn starch are sprayed around liberally. Other entertainment includes local DJs and bands, food stalls, food trucks and rides for children.

Sunfest

Weerama festival

Where: Truganina, Wyndham Vale and Werribee

When: March 18-20

Weerama returns to Wyndham this weekend with a three-day extravaganza held consecutively in Truganina, Wyndham Vale and Werribee featuring an outdoor cinema, food trucks and live bands at Arndell Park Community Centre in Truganina,  a carnival and fireworks at Presidents Park in Wyndham Vale and the iconic Weerama parade and pop-up park, with market stalls, along Watton Street and Station Place, Werribee. Dromkeen Literary Festival

Where: Dromkeen, 1012 Gisborne-Kilmore Road, Riddells Creek

Sunshine Rocks the Rail

Where: Sunshine Railway Station – City Place

When: 11am-9pm, Saturday, March 19

The first Sunshine Rocks The Rail concert will feature Meat Loaf, Cold Chisel, Kiss and U2 tribute bands and will finish with a massive fireworks display about 9pm. Entry is a gold coin donation with proceeds going to Sunshine hospital. Details: www.sunshinebusiness.com.au

 

Pet Rescue Day

Furry friends are being invited to flock to West Footscray this weekend for the Lucky Pet pet rescue day featuring pet adoptions courtesy of rescue group Paws & Tails, as well as a free bag of food and flea treatment for every pet adopted.

Multicultural Fiesta

Where: Werribee Park

When: 11am-4pm, Sunday March 20

People from all around the world will converge on Werribee Park on Sunday for the community’s annual Multicultural Fiesta. Festival-goers will be spoilt for choice with entertainment and culinary delights from around the world. People are also welcome to bring a picnic from home.

Walk with Her

Where: Lake Caroline, Lake Street, Caroline Springs

When: 9am, Saturday, March 19

Caroline Springs and Melton folk will come together this weekend in a bid to promote gender equality and help end violence against women. The Walk With Her event, initiated by newly formed group Melton Women Making it Happen, is aimed at raising awareness of domestic violence and challenging attitudes that support it.
