Cr Herbie Hollingworth is the new Sunshine mayor. He was elected at a special council meeting on Monday evening, one of Sunshine’s bitterest mayoral inaugurations for many years.

September 10, 1986

Last week’s Essendon Airport disaster, which took the lives of six people, has seen local residents renew calls to have the airport closed down. However the majority of residents from East Keilor and Avondale Heights who spoke to The Advocate said they felt sorry for the people in Essendon, but felt they knew what they were getting themselves into when they moved to the area.

Brimbank residents are likely to have two rubbish bins under a new waste disposal scheme Brimbank council is considering. One will be for recyclable rubbish, the other for non-recyclable waste.

Soaring copper prices are being blamed for a spate of burglaries at construction sites and railway stations in the region. Building sites at Cairnlea, Derrimut, Paramount, Edgewater and Epping have already been hit.
