Green thumbs required

Green thumbs are encouraged to attend two community planting days in Sunshine West and Keilor. Sessions will be held at the Caroline Chisholm Reserve in Keilor on May 29 and Buckingham Reserve in Sunshine West on June 5, both from 10am to midday.

Good for kids

A wellbeing program for children aged between eight and 12, including mindfulness techniques, will run from 1-2pm on Saturday, May 28, at the Hillside Community Centre, Royal Crescent.

A Seniors Rights Victoria representative will speak about ways to “protect your rights as you age” on Wednesday, June 15, from 10-11am at the Taylors Hill Neighbourhood House, 121 Calder Park Drive. Morning tea will be provided.

Share your vision for Brimbank

Brimbank residents are encouraged to share their vision for the area in 2030 by taking part in an online survey by July 1. Your ideas will help shape an update of the Brimbank Community Plan (2009-2030), which is updated every four years. There will also be direct consultation with groups active in the community. Duke Street Community House in Sunshine is offering classes where children can explore their creativity and have a unique artistic experience with internationally renowned artist Saidin Salkic. All ages and abilities welcome. Spaces are limited.

Autism awareness

Families navigating the disability support system can get some relief through a new group program at Sunshine for families of children with autism. Tweddle Child and Family Health Care’s My Time, is a free weekly group on Tuesday mornings at the Sunshine Special Developmental School for kids up to the age of 16 of all disabilities, chronic medical conditions and developmental delay. A trained facilitator guides discussions and connects parents with support services, while a skilled play helper engages children to give parents and carers a break. My Time runs from 9.30am to 11.30am during schools terms.

Free coffee courses

Free barista training courses will be held at the Brimbank Bicycle Education Centre in Keilor Downs on May 23, 25 and 27 from 9.30am to 2.30pm. It’s one of many programs being developed by the centre to help local unemployed people find work.
